African Faith Community

Mutual care Bereavement Assistance.

An essential component of AFC’s mission is to cultivate a deep sense of fellowship among the group’s members. Fellowship entails the desire to be in each other’s company, share things and moments together by offering each other love and support (spiritual, financial, material, and otherwise).

OUTREACH TO AFRICA

“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2: 14-17

One of the major outreach activities undertaken by AFC is the financial assistance to the motherland. The funds for the outreach come from members’ voluntary contributions during the biweekly Sunday meetings (a collection basket is passed around) as well as from the Taste of Africa fundraising.
Recipients for this assistance include small local charities (i.e., orphanages, schools, medical centers, or other charities managed by Catholic religious orders) and individuals/families in desperate need.

AFC MAIN SOCIAL EVENTS

ANNUAL BARBECUE
AFC organizes an annual barbecue in a nearby city of Frederick’s park, during the month of August (the weekend before school reopens). Participants enjoy plenty of food, drinks, and entertainment (music, dance, games for kids and adults etc.).
The social ministry, with help from other ministries and AFC members, takes the lead in planning and delivering the event.
