Activities

Spiritual Activities 

  • Sunday Biweekly Prayer Meetings:  Members meet to fellowship with another, deepen their relationship with God as well as their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and traditions. Praise and worship, sharing of personal testimonies and faith formation, are  an integral part of the meetings. 
  •  Weekly evening prayer meetings: Members get together to pray and share on the scriptures in members’ homes who volunteer to host. Members can request a prayer gathering at their home any time.
  • Virtual rosary prayers (via conference call) on Monday evening and Thursday morning.
  • The First Friday of the month: Members participate in the  Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary Devotion held at church in front of the Blessed Sacrament
  • The Third Thursday of the month: Members participate in the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament held in the chapel. They also regularly attend adoration on Tuesday evenings.
  • The AFC annual retreat: Gives members an opportunity to spend some quite time with the Lord in prayer and meditation. Locations vary and are TBD
  • Visits to the Grotto during Lent for meditation on the way of the cross.
  • Members and their families participate in the faith formation classes offered by the SKD church.
  • Members participate in the various ministries at SKD church, including Eucharistic ministers, lectors, children and adult faith formation instructors, and altar servers, among others

Social Activities 

  • The annual Taste of Africa (TOA) fundraising event: This is the biggest event organized by AFC usually in October. It showcases African cultures in culinary, fashion, dance, music, and plastic arts, among others. The event is attended by hundreds and helps raise money for helping the poor on the African continent.
  • The annual barbecue held in a local park at the beginning of the school year. This event is organized by the AFC men’s ministry in conjunction with the social ministry. Members, their families and friends enjoy plenty of food, drinks, music, dance, games, and much more.
  • The end-of-year party: Members get together to celebrate the accomplishments made through the year. Awards are handed out to those who went above and beyond their duties. 
  • Celebratory events organized by individual members such as for sacraments of baptism, first communion, matrimony, confirmation; birthdays, and graduations, among others. These celebrations offer an additional opportunity to members to fellowship and support one another.
  • Members also participate in  social activities organized by the SKD parish.
